People of OU: Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund reflects on time at OU

Freddy Kreuger is a household name, whether it be from the original “A Nightmare on Elm Street” or the later “Freddy vs. Jason.” With this, Robert Englund — the actor who played the horror icon in eight of the nine iterations — became well known across the country.

April BOT meeting: New master’s program, student awards, advancement update

The April 20 Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting recognized four student award recipients, introduced a new master’s degree in finance and featured a report from board student liaisons Mallory Kean and Red Douglas.

The Klein Center for Culture and Globalization welcomed Mike Chinoy to Oakland University on March 31 to discuss his experience covering U.S.-China relations, the history of journalism within China and to promote his new book “Assignment China.”

Presidential slates met one last time before voting as vice presidential and presidential candidates debated against each other for election to Oakland University’s Student Congress (OUSC) office. SAFB discourse during 2023 OUSC elections

During the recent debates for Oakland University Student Congress (OUSC) president and vice president, a big topic of discussion was the relationship between OUSC and the Student Activities Funding Board (SAFB).

Currently, both organizations are separate entities within the Student Activity Fund Assessment Committee (SAFAC). However, the president of OUSC appoints the chair of SAFB as well as OUSC acts as the legislative body for SAFB to hold it accountable.

Battle of the Bands features four OU bands

The Habitat was filled with music, fans and good vibes on March 22 when the Student Program Board (SPB) hosted their annual Battle of the Bands. Four bands performed in front of the students, with music ranging from metal to Japanese rock.

Club sports teams representing OU on national stage

March marks a successful time to be on a club sports team, as the equestrian and Division III hockey teams embark on journeys for national tournaments.

Equestrian is sending three riders to the national qualifier in Ohio, while D3 hockey was in Boston playing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men’s D3 National Tournament.

Rec Center’s Love Well Week teaches all types of love

Oakland University Recreation and Well-Being center presented its annual Love Well Week from Feb. 13-17, hosting events across campus to promote self-love and loving one another.

The week-long event kicked off with a staple of Rec Well’s wellness programs: pet therapy. On Feb. 13, students were able to stop by the Oakland Center (OC) to spend some time with therapy dogs and start the week with some furry friends.
